APSA has initiated a Hybrid Work Arbitration with Simon Fraser University (SFU) to protect and clarify members’ rights to participate in remote work under the AD 10.13 Work Schedules policy. This process is focused on ensuring APSA members have fair and consistent access to hybrid and remote work arrangements, as outlined in AD 10.13.
A member of the Administrative and Professional Staff Association (“an Employee”) is primarily self-directing and self-disciplinary concerning the functions of the Member’s position. An Employee will exercise discretion about the time and location of work performed by the Employee in support of the established job objectives.
AD 10.13 was created to provide clear guidelines for alternative work arrangements. However, APSA has raised concerns that its implementation has been inconsistent, sometimes preventing members from accessing remote work options.
As part of this arbitration, APSA is seeking volunteers who worked remotely before March 2020 to testify and help demonstrate the longstanding value and feasibility of remote work at SFU. Your experience is crucial for shaping the outcome of this case.
Key Dates:
- Legal counsel’s opening: November 12th
- Hearing dates for evidence: December 2–4, 7–8, 10–11, and January 12–13 and 19–20
If you worked remotely before March 2020 and are willing to share your experience, we need your participation to support the rights of all APSA members. Please reach out to Andrew at aboden@apsacentral.ca if you can assist in this important process.
