Tess Williams played a vital role as an APSA board member, advocating for the inclusion of gender-affirming care in the extended healthcare benefits for SFU employees. Her activism for gender-affirming healthcare extends beyond SFU. Tess is also a part of the Society for Advocacy for Gender-Affirming Healthcare (SAGAH). SAGAH is supporting The Enchanté Network's letter to Health Minister Osborne and policy staff on gender affirming surgeon recruitment in British Columbia. They are:
-
Urging the welcome of gender-affirming providers and specialists seeking to relocate from the US to BC, and the adoption of wider coverage for specialized procedures which increase autonomy over disclosure and reduce rates of poor health and gender-based violence for 2S/TNB people in our communities.
-
Asking the province to uphold the spirit of these statements by providing pathways to BC that include 2S/TNB people fleeing this dire state of affairs in the US and the relocation of critically needed gender-affirming specialists, which BC lacks and which are abundant in the US.
If you wish to support these actions, you can sign The Enchanté Network's letter, which they will deliver to BC lawmakers in the coming weeks.
